Inaugural Pacific Connect-USP Academic Network Dialogue 2018 Communiqué

We, the participants of the inaugural Pacific Connect —USP Academic Network Dialogue, met in Suva, Fiji on Tuesday, 19 June 2018 at the invitation of the International Centre for Democratic Partnerships (ICDP). The Dialogue was co-hosted by The University of the South Pacific (USP) and supported by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).

Blockchain in the Pacific

Like in many major capital cities around the World, blockchain (distributed ledger) technology has gained a strong following in the Pacific. Port Moresby, PNG, played host to the inaugural Blockchain Pasifik conference from October 11-12 where a good number of international and local participants came together for the event.

Pacific Islanders now straddle the analogue and digital worlds. While other cultures may have lost their traditional modes of communication, they remain strong in the Pacific, and Pacific Islanders should never forget long-standing cultural connections in pursuit of new technology.

Digital connectivity to boost educational opportunities in the Solomons

ICDP is calling for expressions of interest from ambitious, accomplished and forward-thinking individuals to join the Pacific Connect Network Dialogue in Honiara on 22-23 November. The event will focus on education and build on the outcomes of an earlier workshop run by ICDP in the Solomon Islands in September.
