Pacific colleagues must collaborate to maximise the impact of connectivity in the region
and make technology work for its citizens and communities. The Pacific Connect Forum
welcomes emerging Pacific leaders who are not only ‘tech savvy’ but are open-minded
and willing to forge unity between Pacific Islands.
The Australian Government is determined to strengthen relationships with like-minded partners in the South Pacific across the Indo-Pacific region. Australia has longstanding and ongoing connections to the Pacific, and the Forum has assembled a remarkable group of people to further these relationships.
Held in the Preston Stanley Room at New South Wales’ Parliament House, Sydney, the 2018 Pacific Connect Forum was hosted by the International Centre for Democratic Partnerships (ICDP) and the Australian institute for active policy Global Access Partners (GAP).
Current and emerging leaders from Australia and across the Pacific will meet this week in Honiara, Solomon Islands, to attend the Solomon Islands Dialogue hosted by The International Centre for Democratic Partnerships (ICDP).

We, the participants of the inaugural Pacific Connect —USP Academic Network Dialogue, met in Suva, Fiji on Tuesday, 19 June 2018 at the invitation of the International Centre for Democratic Partnerships (ICDP). The Dialogue was co-hosted by The University of the South Pacific (USP) and supported by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).
Like in many major capital cities around the World, blockchain (distributed ledger) technology has gained a strong following in the Pacific. Port Moresby, PNG, played host to the inaugural Blockchain Pasifik conference from October 11-12 where a good number of international and local participants came together for the event.
Pacific Islanders now straddle the analogue and digital worlds. While other cultures may have lost their traditional modes of communication, they remain strong in the Pacific, and Pacific Islanders should never forget long-standing cultural connections in pursuit of new technology.
