Reflections from a facilitator on a Tonga Dialogue

With a 6:45pm departure from Sydney, and a two-hour time difference, we did not arrive in Nuku’alofa until 2:00am. We were still met with a full terminal of people ready to joyously welcome home what appeared to be half a plane full of Tongan seasonal workers returning from several months in Australia. A very noisy and colourful welcome to Tonga!

Pacific Connect Tonga 2019 Network Dialogue Communique

We, the participants of the Pacific Connect Network Dialogue on Digital Solutions to Local Challenges, convened on 18-19 November 2019 in Nuku’alofa, Tonga at the invitation of the International Centre for Democratic Partnerships (ICDP) and Tonga Women in ICT. The Dialogue was supported by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).

Pacific Connect holds Financial Education Dialogue in Brisbane

Entrepreneurs, community leaders and representatives from a range of sectors gathered in Brisbane from 10-13 November to discuss how improved financial education and literacy can increase business opportunities for Pacific entrepreneurs. The third Dialogue in ICDP’s successful Pacific Women Entrepreneurs series saw 29 delegates from Australia, Fiji, PNG, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Vanuatu collaborate in a variety of discussions, financial literacy and grant-writing workshops, innovation hub visits and networking activities.

I’ve just returned from Fiji where I was asked to co-facilitate training to 20 middle management leaders within HFC Bank, Suva and was also invited to speak at the Fijian Human Resources Institute (FHRI) Annual Convention. I was absolutely exhausted at the end of this (in a good way!) and I reflected on how I had gotten to this point on my flight home…
