We, the participants of the Pacific Connect Network Dialogue on Technology Enabling Inclusiveness, met on 29 – 30 July 2019 in Suva, Fiji at the invitation of HFC Bank Fiji and the International Centre for Democratic Partnerships (ICDP) with the support of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).
ICDP hosted the Pacific Connect Dialogue titled ‘Digital transformation opportunities in freight and logistics’ in Honiara, Solomon Islands on 25-26 June 2019. Thirteen emerging leaders — six from Solomon Islands, one from PNG, one from Fiji and five from Australia convened over two days.
I met many fascinating people through the Dialogue whom I am now working with or plan to work with in the future. The Dialogue gave me a platform to challenge myself, extend my own skills, knowledge and experience, and make connections that I would not have access to otherwise.

On 16-19 June 2019, ICDP hosted its second Brisbane Dialogue, titled Pacific Women Entrepreneurs – Technology Influencers. The Dialogue report has been released.
The final Dialogue before the Pacific Connect Ideas Exchange begins today in Suva, Fiji. Twenty-two Australian and Fijian emerging leaders will come together to explore how assistive technology and improved digital connectivity can contribute to social inclusion in the Pacific.
Cyber Safety Pasifika (CSP) is an Australian Federal Police (AFP) led cyber safety awareness and education program which is being delivered in 18 Pacific island countries through local Pacific police officers.
The spirit of everyone attending the Dialogue was ‘what can we all do together that we can’t do apart?’. The use of technology to deliver information and services into remote areas, was an ongoing theme in discussions at the Dialogue.
When Cyclone Pam hit Vanuatu in 2015, sweeping away gardens, trees and houses, a network of local organisations set about ending food insecurity in some of the country’s worst affected communities. The implementation of agroforestry plots, plant tissue grafting and the introduction of carrots and broccoli are being hailed as important steps to end food insecurity in the islands.
